Still damp and dreary. A few people, minimal litter (I like Thursdays). Saw the jay, and Miranda (a regular photographer) saw the kingfisher.
Boardwalks: OK but a sag just starting at W3W darkens.soil.twee on the main one … wait and see …

1 runner, 1 walker, no litter. Progress on the machine access along main channel.
37.17m at Durngate
1.9mm rain but it feels worse
otherwise all normal
Bumped into Charlotte who was stalking a Little Grebe. It's her last day 🫤. She will be missed.
One fast runner completely ignored us. A few walkers enjoying the sunshine
A plaque has appeared on the front of the bench at the top of SPM. Not sure if it was put there in agreement with HIWWT.
Graffiti on the noticeboard. Charlotte's cleaning it off.
A few people enjoying strolling through the reserve this morning as the sun broke through the clouds. Several drinks cans and bottles plus remains of McDonald's meal and bag.
A late red admiral resting on a log in the glade area.
Nice to see a small flock of long tailed tits in the bushes at the start of the boardwalk from the Durngate entrance. Looks like people are gaining access to the original river bank path there. Needs some more branches to barricade the route.

Wet.
One lady jogger (a regular, nice and polite).
Lots of mushrooms.
Side rail broken in the mangrove swamp formation.dearest.bought
More wet underfoot than I expected, but lovely autumn colours when the sun came out. Very quiet, litter only significant at the Durngate bench area. No needles today, thank goodness.
The picture is a moss cup full of rosehip remnants, which we found at Deacon Hill when cutting blackthorn scrub. I relocated it. Tom thought probably used by mice.
Thursday 17th
A couple of walkers, one man pushing his bike, I didn't know if that was ok or not. One man squatting on the bench just in from the Durngate entrance. I didn't spot any litter.
There was a working party clearing what looks like a path by the river just past the reed boardwalk. At the Durngate entrance were a number of vehicles, a bike, a number of hand tools, rakes etc plus what looked like a fairly new or unused Sthil Strimmer just lying on the ground. The strimmer being on the ground on the side of the notice board. There was nobody around, it didn't seem too wise to me to leave such expensive equipment unattended.
over 60mm rain since last week and Durngate is on the rise but strangely no puddles. 2 photographers and 1 runner.
Saturday I aw a South Downs truck with an empty trailer. No time to investigate but today there's clearly an new access path bypassing the boardwalk. Last saw this in 2014 while repairs were done after the floods so I assume its for mini digger access
Litter around the northern SPM bench.
Southern side busy with families, walkers and one runner.
A man wanting to come in via North Walls bridge with one of those huge electric fat bikes.
A nice normal morning with friendly chats, though more litter than usual. But I found three needles behind the Durngate bench, with other drug paraphernalia. Sam's phone was on answerphone and I couldn't see any others on the blog, nor did I want to wake up staff on a Saturday morning if they were not on call. No reply from Trinity, no reply from the council out of hours phone line, so I called the police. T
All quiet.
Two runners, a lovely Jay and a small amount of rubbish on the bench by the entrance, removed. Two swans sleeping as you cross into the public part that is open.
A lot of light blue graffiti along the bridge from the recreation field since last onnthe reserve. Apologies if already noted.
Noticed couple of syringes tucked behind the bush on far side if bench at Durngate entrance. Sorry forgot thick gloves so had to leave there. Otherwise very little litter.
Amazing reed clearance in the pond in absence of water buffalo! Only met one walker today.
Anne and Tim
couple of runners and met a couple of walkers I know. The only litter was a wipe at the top bench in Swimming Pool Meadow - from presumably the invisible visitor! Saw a deer in the reeds on the way to the Pond. Plenty of swan faeces and feathers by the rails to Nomansland. Water slowly rising at 36.98. More rain than Harestock records. 2.1mm last 6 hours, 4.5 last 24 but none in last hour, well I know that's wrong, It was heaving down when I finished!
Nothing new to report on the boardwalks
Saturday I met the man who installed the monitoring kit in the area. Interesting chat.
Such a beautiful autumnal morning, with nothing to report apart from litter at the paddling stream, and nice chats with visitors. Many asking about the reopening of the top path. Still aware of the increase in small groups of runners.
Quiet (apart from Charlotte's strimmer). One bird watcher, a few runners.
Boardwalk needs some attention:
renovated.active.mondays (I assume you will be actively renovating this one on a Monday)
digests.clasps.screamed (this one is a bit Agatha Christie)
cornering.legend.relished (Stirling Moss)
Quiet in the South, minimal litter.
New boardwalk issues:
At https://w3w.co/covertly.tasteful.tractor (where does What3Words get them from?) a trip hazard is resulting from a dropped lateral support (photos 1 and 2)
At ///registry.renewals.dentistry and ///attend.formation.charts stringers have broken, although the boards above look OK (photos 3 and 4).
interesting dip of 50cm this morning. I wonder if there was maintenance or testing going on. there's a corresponding rise of 20cm at City Mill at the same time
