Friday 28th Feb

Lovely walk around winnall this morning, I saw a pair of kingfishers and a water rail. I’ve updated the chalk board with a few species to. Not much litter and very quiet on site.

Thursday 27th

A pleasant day in the south, although I found two margarine tubs discarded in two locations, both removed and binned. They weren't there in the early morning but appeared this afternoon. I also fished a glass bottle out of the water with a 10p deposit cap, how longs that been there? Nice to see a Kingfisher in the sun this morning.

Thursday 27th - all good in the South

Quiet, a photographer, couple of runners. The photographer hadn’t seen the kingfisher(s). No litter except for a smashed bottle in the glade. Chalk board still clean!

Tuesday 25th work party

Hi all,

We had another work party in the south.

Continued planting near the swimming hotspot.

Boardwalk repairs.

I found a kids 'den' in the depths near the dipping stream here:

///disco.trainers.grudge
https://w3w.co/disco.trainers.grudge

Pulled out a very heavy pallet, a very large tarp and plenty of rubbish.

I've blocked the access with pleached trees and brash so hopefully that area will be left undisturbed now.

Still need to tidy brash in swimming pool meadow and rake material along path to pond.

Thanks for your support,

Sam

not a day to hang about

No litter unless you count 2 fish carcasses. 3 walkers and lots of water.
Durngate 37.23 (that's quite high) main channel running fast. We've had 23mm rain since yesterday, 5 days worth. Good work on the clearance.

Sunday 23rd February

A few walkers.  Was almost flattened, twice, by a pair of fast runners.

Thursday 20th

Wet day, one solitary runner. The chalkboard at the Durngate entrance has been cleaned but unfortunately updated with graffiti again. I didn't have anything with me to clean it off. If whoever is on tomorrow is able to take a cloth with them and clean it I'm sure that would be appreciated by all.
Single Tulip on the bench at the northern end of reserve.

18th Feb works party

Hi all,

We had a work party today and pleached, dead hedged and planted around the swimming area to reduce the impact of swimming and disturbance to the area.

Cleared some alder regen for the dead hedge but also to reduce alder encroachment within swimming pool meadow.

Got the graffiti off the blackboard but it will needs painting. Got the graffiti off the bench too.

Cut back some brambles along path and pond for better access. Needs clearing still.

Had a pug/jug pale looking small dog. With some guys on site approaching the glade. Told them no dogs and they caused fuss but eventually left.

Had another dog light brown spaniel with a family. They hadn't seen sign and left site with no fuss.

Thank you all for your support,

Sam

Bit brighter and dryer

Fair bit of birdsong. No humans for a change. All in all rather pleasant

Saturday 16th February

Quiet and drizzly. Moderate litter. Friendly chats with regular visitors. Saw a pair of kingfishers near the River Park bridge, and these swans were very chilled.

Do these two yellow trugs by the lower bridge belong to the Trust? I could come back tomorrow and rehome them. Will ask Tom at the workday.

Thursday 13th - all OK in the South

Just a few folks, small amount of litter.

Two logs in the picnic area out of place, including the Lucy memorial plaque. Put them back in place, felt like adjusting Stonehenge.  The two yellow gardening tubs are still there, both with water and larvae in. If not something to do with the Trust (surveys?) we should nab them for work parties!

Wednesday 12th February

Very quiet. Just met a lone jogger and had a chat with a visitor from New York enjoying photographing a pair of mallards and a robin. Heard  a Cettis warbler.

A fair amount of litter at Durngate - beer cans and wine bottles thrown into the middle of the brambles and drug paraphernalia in the glade.

dreary day

but at least it stopped raining (for now). Very little litter. Met my usual pair of Monday runners but no one else. Saw the remains of fire in the Glade. One log has been moved. 2 garden bags containing water by the wooden bridge at Swift's/canoe club. May not be so innocent. I saw some lads in North Walls last week collecting water for some unknown reason. Moles have been active on the pond path. Water high and fast but not dreadful. A little overflow in places. 37.2m and rising at Durngate. 7mm rain overnight.

All the best,

Sunday 9th February

Lots of walkers and photographers.   No runners!  The paparazzi had their long lenses trained on a kestrel.

Litter  in NML

Saturday 8th February

A small wood fire on the glade. I dismantled it. Moderate litter. Quiet, damp, cold and muddy, but lovely all the same. Bad graffiti on the Durngate board again.

Friday 7th Feb

Very quiet today, no people or deer and very little bird song.

Thursday 6th

Lovely day, about 10 visitors, mostly all looking for the wildlife. On the way up to the pond a small muntjac deer leapt out in front of me across the path and disappeared into the undergrowth.

No litter.

Wed 5th February- an after thought

No joggers today but there was a lady wild swimming by the old outdoor swimming pool from the recreation ground side. Brrrr!!

Wednesday 5th February

Beautiful morning - surprised not to see more people out enjoying the sunshine on the reserve. Path dried out since last week. Had a nice chat with a couple of Environmental Science students. They obviously haven't done waterfowl ID yet on their course!

Three cormorants in the tallest tree at the northern end looking as though standing guard over the entrance to NML!

Saw first celandine flower of the year - spring is on its way!

Only small amount of litter - drinks can upside down in the pond but too far out to reach.

pretty uneventful

less wet. Little litter. Couple of finches on reserve and crows on North Walls making themselves known. Saw a pair of runners 4 times. I'm now exhausted just watching them!

The boardwalk in the mangrove swamp is almost done for at thrillers.judges.couch
